Leeds General Cemetery Woodhouse

Also known as Woodhouse Lane Cemetery, was created in 1833 due to St Peters Church Cemetery (Leeds Parish Church) being full.

In 1956 Leeds University purchased a majority shareholding and in 1965 were given permission to remove monuments and create a public space. This gathered pace when in 1968 headstones including Commonwealth War Graves were removed or covered with grass reopening to the public in 1969 as St Georges Field.

This Section remembers the following:

The 81 men who served in WW1 and the 24 men who served in WW2 all Laid to Rest at Leeds General Cemetery. All are Remembered on the Commonwealth War Graves Memorial in Lawnswood Cemetery.

The 10 civilians who were Killed on the 14th/15th March 1941 during the quarter blitz raid by the Luftwaffe.
