Edwin worked at the 2nd General Hospital in Leeds throughout the war ,Edwin was reported to be part of the Leeds Hospitals entertainment troupe and he took part in stage productions to cheer the wounded soldiers up. Edwin Died from Pneumonia following Influenza (Spanish Flu.)

Enlisted 14/06/1915 Colsterdale into the 15th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment 15/1463. In hospital at Bristol from a gun shot wound to the thigh in July 1916. A court of enquiry into Williams death and injuries to Lance Corporal E Linzie 40039 took place 22/06/1917.  At 04.00 a witness heard a shot in the trench and saw William fall, he was on sentry duty and it was explained on night duty one round would be in the chamber it was found that both men were on duty cleaning rifles verdict to look at cleaning rifle whilst in trench.  Epitaph on Grave Reads "In Loving Memory Thy Will Be Done" Laid to Rest Pond Farm Cemetery Belgium.

MATHERS Gilbert Guardsman 8128 2nd Bn Scots Guards DOW 24/10/1914 Aged 20. Son of David and Agnes  CWGC 26 Elford Grove Roundhay Road. Landed France 07/10/1914. Gilbert was only in Belgium for 17 days he lost his life at the First Battle for Ypres. On the 27th October 1914 only12 officers and 460 men from the 2nd Bn Scots Guards answered the roll call. Exactly a year to the day Gilbert died this appeared in the Leeds Mercury.

Who ever reported George would have received 20 shilling the reward for identifying a deserter. Epitaph on Grave Reads "His Life Was All He Had to Give, He Gave That Life That Others Might Live"

Mentioned in Dispatches by Sir John French  30/11/1915 London Mercury 01/01/1916 gave a detailed description of the West riding RFA and Sir Johns piece. In 1921 Isabella after writing to the war office on several occasion received a Certificate regarding Thomas being mentioned in dispatches.
