BOYD Thomas Ripley

1883: Born 03rd May Holbeck Son of Thomas a cloth finisher and embosser Born Leeds 1844 and Sarah Ann Sykes Born Leeds 1850 Married 1869 Leeds.
1894-1896: Attended Leeds Boys Modern.
1904: After leaving Leeds Boys Modern Thomas emigrated to Toronto Canada and started a business as a plasterer in the firm of Boyd and Colisham.
1914: Enlisted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Valcartier 03rd September 16 km from Quebec joining the 9th Battery Canadian Field Artillery having previousley served for three years in the Boar war. At his medical Thomas is described as being 5ft 7 inches tall, with a dark complexion black hair Grey eyes with a chest size of 37 inches.
1914: Thomas arrived in England in November.
1915: After training was sent to France in February.
He fought at Ieper and Festhubert and it was said that he fired the first shot at Neuve Chapelle. Thomas was recommended three times for honours for as what was described as, "faithfull and Gallant service".
1916: Thomas lost his life in April at Reninghelst near Poperinghe Belgium where it was reported he was Instantaneously Killed by a German shell.
