Church of the Holy Spirit Beeston Hill
Can be found in Tempest Road and Stratford Street. The church closed around 2012. There is a war memorial for the parish outside, in the small churchyard. The plaque below could be found inside with names of 27 church members who gave their lives.

Son of John William and Marian Dempster McPherson Married 1886 Newcastle Upon Tyne. CWGC 5 Stratford Terrace Dewsbury Road. medals sent to this address after war. Enlisted Liverpool 19/02/1912 Aged 23 Residence 22 Seymour Street Occupation Salesman. John was described as being 5ft 6 inches tall a chest size of 36 inches. He was called up on the 05/08/1914 landed Le Harve France on board SS Maiden 01/11/1914 in Liverpool John and those entitled to the 1914 star were called Maideners after the ship that transported them to France. In the early part of 1915 John suffered from Flu. Classed as missing KIA Railway Wood at the Battle of Hooge 2 miles east of Ypres 16/06/1915.

REED Bernard 2nd Lieutenant 10th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment Attached 15th Bn West Yorkshires KIA Aged 22 12/04/1918. LEEDS MODERN: 1909-1910. Son of Joseph a Tailor and Sarah Ann. 1901 Main Street Burley in Wharfdale near Ilkley. 1911 Residence 153 Beeston Road Apprentice Tailor. Enlisted September 1914 Leeds Town Hall 15th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment Leeds Pals after training at Colsterdale and Salisbury Bernard went to Egypt in December 1915. Promoted to 2nd Lietenant in the 10th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment and was attached back to the 15th Bn West Yorkshire's. March 1918 Bernard was given the rank of acting Captain on Staff duties. 12/04/1918 Bernard is reported to have rallied three Battalion's as they retreated and was shot down as they galloped forward. His Commanding officer wrote: "He was brave as a lion, conscientious in all he did, and devoted to his duty, for which he layed down his life". Remembered Leeds Boys Modern.

In Normans CWGC page their are details in 1925 of Norman being laid or remembered in a Memorial Plot 2 Row B alongside 6 other men from the KOYLI at the Guards Cemetery Lesboeufs all these men including Norman are now Remembered Thiepval Memorial Somme France.
