ARMLEY PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHAPEL BRANCH ROAD 

 

 

Remembering the 5 men who gave their lives in World War One and attended the Armley Methodist Church on Branch Road Armley. Dedicated in 1905 it Closed in 1970 and was well known in Leeds for being the home of Mikes Carpets. in 2016 The building was listed and restoration work was carried out.

The Memorial can be found at the Leeds Discovery Centre.

Private 24461 2nd Bn West Yorkshire Regiment DOW 12/09/1916 Aged 21.

 

1895: Born Leeds Son of John Edward and Alice Marsden Married 1893 St Peter Leeds.

1911: Residence No 9 Rillington Place Armley Occupation Feeder in a Printing Works.

1916: Leeds Mercury 29th August reported Harry had been wounded Residence of No 14 Garfield Grove Armley.

CWGC: Residence No 14 Garfield Grove Armley.

BAXTER Walter

Private 50526 10th Bn Lancashire Fusiliers DOW 26/09/1919 Aged 21.

 

1898: Born Leeds Son of William Clayton and Mary Elizabeth Whitaker Married St Mathias Burley Leeds 1894.

1898: Baptised 21st December at St mathias Burley.

1911: Residence 4 Nunington Street Canal Road Armley at School.

1917: Enlisted Leeds March.

1918: Sent to France January . CWGC 4 Nunington Street Armley.

1919: Severely wounded at Rheims 26th September and Died of Wounds at the 53rd General Hospital the same day .Laid to rest two days later. 

​

National Roll of the Great War States he died 26/09/1918 and was buried in Wimereux.
